3rd Annual · Saturday, February 6, 2027

About the Festival

A day built around soul and jazz in the Coachella Valley, and around the idea that the crowd matters as much as the lineup.

Most festivals sell you as many tickets as they can fit. We stop at 1,800.

That number is the whole philosophy. It's enough people to feel like something, and few enough that you can find your friends, hear each other between sets, and park without a shuttle. We hit it in 2026 and sold out. We're holding it in 2027 rather than raising it.

Everything else follows from that. Open lawn so you choose your own spot. Bring your own picnic basket. Five hours instead of two, so there's time to eat, move around and actually talk. The music is the reason you come. The comfort is why people come back.

What the third annual is built on

2026 was the year the festival found its size. These are the numbers we're working from.

1,800

Guests in 2026. A complete sellout, and now the deliberate cap.

265

Hotel rooms filled across the weekend by festival guests.

3rd

Year running at the Cathedral City Amphitheater.

35+

Years of live event production behind it.

Who's behind it

Derrick Pipkin

Derrick Pipkin has spent more than thirty-five years putting on live music. He ran multi-decade concert runs at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood, and for years he ran PIPS On La Brea, a Los Angeles jazz room that was a regular home for working musicians.

Soul Springs came out of moving those ideas east into the desert. Same ear for a room, the same belief that how an audience is treated is part of the show.

The lineup is booked by hand, out of relationships built over three and a half decades rather than off a sheet of available acts. That's why the bill reads the way it does.

He still runs the festival himself: the booking, the ticketing, the vendors, the day-of. For better or worse, every decision on this page was made by one person who will be standing at the gate on February 6.

What we hold to

Three things that don't change

The cap1,800 people, held on purpose. Room to move is the thing guests mention first, and we'd rather protect it than sell past it.
The musicSoul, jazz and R&B played live by people who know the catalogue. Contemporary artists working the records that shaped them, not a tribute set.
The dayFive hours outdoors in February sun, with food you brought or food from the vendors, and enough space between sets to have a conversation.

Third year.
Same 1,800 seats.

Saturday, February 6, 2027 at the Cathedral City Amphitheater. General admission is $65 and it's the only tier left.
